Central Highlands Community Legal Centre (CHCLC) is a not-for-profit Incorporated Association and a registered charity, with financial reporting requirements to the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission and to its external funding providers.
This year, PPT Audit have compiled audited financial statements, forming part of this report, and have provided an unqualified opinion that the statements provide a true and fair view of the organisation’s financial position and its ability to pay its debts as and when they come due. The 2017/2018 financial year saw CHCLC continue the sustainability of its operations, with positive financial management ensuring continuing provision of the Centre’s services to those who needed them. As with most community service organisations the primary area of expenditure remains salaries and related costs, totalling more than 75% of all outgoings. This is however recognised as necessary for the provision and retention of a skilled and highly respected workforce. Careful savings over the last two years have enabled the Centre to seek out new premises to meet its growing needs and to arrange for the fit-out and security of the new site with confidence. CHCLC anticipates continuing to be a financially responsible organisation during the coming year under a new name, with new premises, but with the same commitment to providing legal services and education to the people of Ballarat and the Grampians Region.
