Elimination of Violence Against Women CHCLC continues to be a passionate advocate for the prevention of violence against women. Through an active social media campaigns, 16 Days of Activism, fundraising and attendance at a variety of networks and training sessions, we ensure the issue of violence against women is continually raised and considered.
Ballarat City Council Smarter Parking Proposal In May 2018, the City of Ballarat proposed a substantial change to the parking restrictions and costs around the central business district. The changes included a significant increase in the paid parking zones, increase to paid parking times and an elimination of all day parking rates.
CHCLC was concerned about a number of aspects of the proposal and the limited amount of transparency and consultation between ratepayers, businesses and the broader community. Our of our lawyers, Caleb, attended the lengthy Council Meeting on May 31st to express the Centre's concerns. The proposal motion was delayed, in favour of community consultation.
Victorian Law Reform Commission - Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal (VOCAT) Review In October 2018, one of our lawyers, Toni Thomas, had the opportunity to speak to the Review Committee regarding the VOCAT review. The Final Report, taking into account the verbal submissions and written submissions, was tabled at Parliament on September 19, 2018.
